Resurrection Outreach Committee

This group researches, recommends, prioritizes, and allocates money for area agencies and other charities. The following groups fall under this umbrella.

Haiti Mission Leads the parish’s efforts in twinning with a Haiti orphanage and educates the parish on ongoing projects in Haiti. Due to current dangerous conditions, team members are not able to visit Haiti. Please take time to learn about the current conditions and how the country became one of the poorest in the world. Your financial support is crucial to the continued operation of our twinned ministries.

The St. Vincent de Paul Team - provides short term limited financial assistance for rent, food, gas, electricity, etc. for the financially needy in Bedford and Franklin counties, regardless of religious background. Need volunteers to help with screening of applicants. Please contact Sylvia Vancho at 540.297.5941

Joyous Junque – Bi-annual rummage sale that supports many different charities. Volunteers are needed for collecting and sorting goods. Many people are also needed at the time of the sale for set up and running. Please call 540.314.8404

Holy Strokes – Annual Golf Tournament to support several local charities. Need volunteers to solicit sponsors leading up to the tournament and to help run the tournament. Please contact Dave Wilmesher at 540.238.9620

Wednesday Women’s Group - annual craft fair to support various church projects. Some funds are also used for emergency assistance for parishioners. Volunteers can join the craft group or donate baked goods for the fair. Please call Barbara Lenco at 540.493.8941.

Local Charities supported by RCC

Lake Christian Ministries – Resurrection was a founding member of this ecumenical organization that provides assistance with food, clothing, furniture, etc. in the SML area. Needs volunteers to sort donations and do computer data entry. Please call 540.297.3214

SML Good Neighbors - Free programs that develop good neighbor skills and values in children through programs that nourish, educate, and support them. Needs volunteers to help with after school program through the year and to be reading buddies for summer camp. Please call 540.585.4912

RAM House - Roanoke Area Ministries is an ecumenical urban ministry that serves the Roanoke Valley by providing safe day shelter and a nutritious lunch for the homeless. Needs volunteers helping with lunch and also in the RAM Administrative office. Please contact 540.345.8850

Bedford Ride - Volunteer drivers provide non-emergency transportation services for medical appointments. Please call 540-587-3315

Helping Hands - Based in Franklin County, provides emergency financial aid for the poor, sick and elderly. Promotes self-empowerment by counseling, budgeting and goal setting and refers to other agencies for other forms of assistance. Needs volunteers to be budget counselors (training provided) and office help. Please call 540.483.2387

Stepping Stones Mission of Franklin County - soup kitchen providing a lunchtime meal 365 days/year. Volunteers are needed in several areas. Please call 540.482.0775

Shepherd’s Table - The Shepherd's Table serves a free lunch meal to anyone who walks through their doors - no questions asked. Located in Bedford. Needs volunteers for food service, clothes sorting, food pickup, office help in the resource center and the eye clinic. Please call (540) 587-6820

Bedford Pregnancy Center - Helps women and children in unplanned pregnancy situations. Volunteers needed at the center and also to donate blankets and baby clothing. Please check out the website:

There are many other charities in the area – too numerous to list! There is a place for your time and talents. Ask other parishioners - or do any internet search to find the place for you :-)
