Chris Barrett was appointed pastoral coordinator by Bishop Walter Sullivan, effective July 1, 2003.
Chris was baptized as an infant in Foxboro, Mass. in 1952 and was confirmed at Holy Cross in Lynchburg in 1962. He has more than 20 years of Catholic education, including the earning of a B.A. in Theology and a Masters of Divinity, both from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN.
Chris spent almost seven years in priestly formation for the Congregation of Holy Cross (1976-'78, 1980-'83), including nearly two years of Novitiate and three years under temporary vows. He decided to not make final vows and instead married Anne Gibbons in 1983. He and Anne are the parents of three children (Dominic, 19, Zachary, 17, and Adella, 14).
Employment experience includes teaching high school religion at Catholic high schools, the ministry of hospitality at Catholic Worker Houses, four years as Catholic campus minister at Virginia Tech, five years as executive director of the Lynchburg Peace Education Center, six years as director of Tabor Retreat Center (a diocesan facility in Lynchburg), and, most recently, almost four years with the Lynchburg College Center for Community Development and Social Justice.
Chris succeeds Sr. Betty Bagen, GNSH, who served as pastoral coordinator for more than 11 years.
