From Daniel Tillias, Project Coordinator, Pax Christi Haiti
Remarks made to a Richmond Diocese retreat group on January 17, 2003(Sent by Email February 4, to Bob and Adele)
I wrote a poem just for all that you have done, and I hope that is one way to take the voice of all Haitian voices to thank you for your solidarity.
THANKS
I hope that the solidarity week this year will be a success one more time.
I hope it will open new doors for Haiti
because of significant voices saying things should change.
I hope on another year, it will be possible to be here with you to let the world hear my voice saying I need a chance for my country.
I hope that everything will be ok for you,
For all you left in your country to make our cause yours.
For all that didn’t happen because you are vigilant.
For your tenderness and love for this country,
Take this poetry of thanks as a sign of understanding.
Thank you.
Our gratitude is flying to you
Our understanding is more than clear
We would be dead without you
We would not survive without your solidarity
Even though the negative campaign is against us
You are still coming to make our struggle significant
Your position saying no to your government
Makes us feel ourselves not alone
You are like Capois Lamort for us
One of our heroes who braved the danger for freedom
You are our potomitan (central pillar/mainstay) of hope
Haiti will survive through your solidarity
The world will understand us by your action
Our future will be better by your prayer
Our children can imagine hope because of your connections
There is no price to compensate your work
Because it is not a service for sale
All that we have is our love
As one way to say we appreciate the brotherhood/sisterhood
Don’t get discouraged in your work
Because your work is not in vain
The day will come and not too long
When we will be free to take our road
The road of justice, peace and love
That you help us to understand better
Keep struggling, keep praying
With so many hands we won’t lose the struggle.
(This poem is now one of the poems in a book of poems titled: “Cry for Hope” created by Daniel Tillias and Junior St-Vil, Directors of Pax Christi Haiti – a group of young men and women in Port-au-Prince dedicated to nonviolence and following the nonviolent Jesus.)
