Haiti Update - 01/27/10
Haiti Update 1/27/10:
We have had no communication with Paula since last Friday, Jan. 22. It is appearing less likely that the girls will be evacuated to the U.S. and central Virginia. We continue to be grateful for all the good will and great preparations to receive and support them in the event of an evacuation. However, we are not asking for or advising any further collection of goods at this time. We are presently focusing our efforts on getting financial support down to Paula and the orphanage. And we are continuing to appreciate and hold on to the very generous offer of housing at the Presbyterian Home if indeed there is an evacuation.

Haiti Update - 01/22/10
To all RCC Parishioners --
Paula Thybulle, director of the girls’ home in Port-au-Prince, has decided to attempt to evacuate many or most of the girls to Virginia until the orphanage is rebuilt and some semblance of stability returns to Haiti. One of the reasons this has become a viable alternative is that Presbyterian Homes and Family Services in Lynchburg, a 107-year-old and very reputable organization, has offered to keep all the girls together at the same location, an excellent facility at 150 Linden Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
To those of you who have taken the time to apply to be approved for providing foster care, I hope you will not feel too disappointed in this development. Keeping them together turned out to be a high priority for Paula. You will no doubt have ample opportunities to reach out and care for these girls, beginning with an opportunity tomorrow, Sat., Jan. 23, at 9 A.M.
Even though it is still unclear as to whether or when Paula will succeed in getting the girls out of Haiti, Presbyterian Homes is asking for volunteers to come together tomorrow morning to clean the buildings that will be used to house the girls should they come. They are providing all cleaning supplies but asking folks to bring cleaning gloves if they can. There is no need to reply to this message. Just come if you can. And rest assured that if you can’t, you may very well have many other chances to help.
Peace and prayers,
Chris Barrett,
